Chronicle’s New Web Features
Newspapers these days are often quick to jump on the bandwagon and rush out their iPad versions.
But at their core, newspapers still play the very same fundamental role: through rigorous reporting standards, they help sieve out the facts from fiction and in this way, facilitate a robust conversation among various perspectives.
This remains our guiding philosophy as we take one small step today to offer our readers online content. In the past, we have archived news in both HTML and PDF formats, but the age of Facebook and Twitter naturally demands more than static content. So we are introducing two online features through this new website:
Here we invite you to share your opinion on the hottest issues of the week. We would introduce the issue, tease out some of the most compelling questions, and we encourage you to make your voices heard. After all, this is no longer the time to merely listen to one perspective and take it as the absolute hard truth.
So share your opinion on Talking Point, debate fairly, disagree respectfully, and be all the richer as a result. This week, join a discussion about Singaporeans’ attitudes towards gays and lesbians: is homosexuality still a taboo?
We may publish only once every three weeks, but we wouldn’t want to miss all the exciting things happening around campus every day. This is where Caught on Campus comes in.
We bring in quick, bite-sized updates – in the form of photos, short reports, even video and sound clips – to keep your finger on the pulse of campus life.
While you were away, we caught an unlikely battle brewing on campus, a war that goes back to the dawn of time: when dogs meet cats on campus, who will prevail? Check out what’s happening and give your take.
Admittedly, this is only the first step in our journey into the virtual landscape. There’s still a long way to go, a whole community to build. So join us today. Share your comments below, drop us an e-mail or two, tell us what you think!
