Caught On Campus: NTU Wine Lovers Get Their Own Valentine’s

Hearts beat fast, as rich colours hinted of tasteful promises. Love was in the air at the Nanyang Auditorium as wine connoisseurs — both students and professors alike — gathered for the NTU Wine Society’s inaugural wine festival, dubbed ValenWine.

From 4 to 5 Feb, 11am to 5pm daily, wine lovers at NTU got to sample a selection of wines ranging from merlots to chardonnays, imported from countries like France, Italy and New Zealand.

For the price of $5, each participant got to taste the different wines while listening to music performances.

Liu LongHao, the head organiser of the event and a second-year student from the School of Art, Design and Media, said: “We’re not just promoting wine, we’re promoting a whole lifestyle and fine culture along with it.”

But while wine retains its romantic association with enjoying the good life, there is also a pragmatic purpose for learning more about wine, according to Marvyn from Choice Wines, a participating vendor.

“Just like how there is etiquette for fine dining, there is also etiquette for wine appreciation,” he said.

“In the future, such knowledge can help NTU students in building rapport with high end potential business clients.”
