Simplicity, versatility and timelessness.

These were the three design concepts Chia Yan An, a final-year student from the School of Computer Engineering, considered when he first designed Lyon, the new NTU mascot.

At an official ceremony held at Canopy K, Chia was awarded the S$5,000 cash prize for winning the NTU Students’ Union Mascot Competition held last February.

Of the three concepts, Chia highlighted versatility as a big factor.

“I submitted up to 10 designs with different outfits because I wanted a mascot that could suit the needs of the student body here at NTU”, said the 24-year-old.

Beyond the prize money, Chia also said that the occasion was special because he has made his mark in NTU.

“This is the legacy that I get to leave behind here for many years to come.”
