Lee Kwang Soo Charms Fans With Shy Personality

In Singapore for the first time, Lee Kwang Soo showed off his sleek dance moves, smooth voice and charismatic personality as he rubbed shoulders with eager fans.

Running Man fans know him as the hilarious ‘Giraffe’ on the popular Korean game show.

The 1.9-metre singer-actor attributed his height to his love for milk, and smiled wryly when the emcee joked that that made him a potential spokesperson for a dairy company.

In real life, the 28 year-old Lee Kwang Soo was unlike his hilarious and bubbly on-screen persona. At the press conference on Friday, he revealed a surprising shyness when he doubled over in embarrassed laughter after performing his signature “robot” dance, which Running Man viewers would be familiar with.

The actor’s shy demeanour also prompted the emcee at his solo fan meet on Saturday to teach him to say, “Paiseh, lah” (“I’m embarrassed” in Hokkien). The eager Kwang Soo was quick to try it out, much to the delight of his audience.

During an interaction segment at the fan meet, Kwang Soo mistook requests to bao bao (“hug” in Mandarin) his fans as bo bo (“kiss” in Korean) — a confusion which resulted in the crowd bursting into laughter.

The night was filled with zealous screams from his fans as Kwang Soo took to the stage at Resorts World Sentosa, opening with a cover of Hug by South Korean group DBSK and then an acoustic rendition of Because I Love You.

Despite the few mistakes in his piano-playing while singing, Kwang Soo’s smooth voice charmed the audience, leaving them swaying to the music and sighing in admiration as he hit the high notes later on.

The fans also got up close and personal with their idol during the interactive games at the meet.

The crowd went hysterical in the game of ‘Questions & Requests’ when Kwang Soo hugged four lucky female fans and even gave one of them a kiss on the forehead upon the girls’ requests. Afterwards, he bashfully commented: “Singaporeans are very passionate.”

In the game of ‘True or False’, the actor also divulged surprising facts about himself.

For instance, he revealed that he preferred shorter girls to taller girls — which led to screams of delight and loud cheers erupting from the female fans in the audience.

Towards the end of the fan meet, when the emcee suggested that the audience perform the Kallang Wave for Kwang Soo, the latter requested to video it down. “I want to go back to Korea and show this to my friends,” he said excitedly.

Running Man fans who haven’t had enough of their idols can look forward to September when other members of the cast — Kim Jong Kook, HaHa, Gary, and Song Jihyo — head down to Singapore for another fan meeting.

The Running Man cast fan meeting will be held at Marina Bay Sands on 28 September 2013.
