Coming Home With SteadiProductions
By Miranda Yeo
National Day music videos are a tricky genre to tackle. Year after year, National Day theme songs have been criticized for hitting the wrong notes. This year’s theme song, “One Singapore” has been slammed for having “bad lyrics” and “awful rapping”. One newspaper columnist has even likened it to a pre-school nursery rhyme. Several talented Singaporeans have stepped up their game this year, producing their own rendition of a National Day song.
These include Mr Brown’s “Forever Family”, Lorraine Tan’s “Shine Singapore” and “Treasure every moment”, where flamboyant celebrity songwriter Dick Lee teamed up with visually-impaired local singer Kelvin Chen. The uplifting song about the simple joys of everyday Singaporean life has attracted over 27,000 views so far.
More popular with over 40,000 views, has been Mr Brown’s acoustic ditty “Forever Family”, which has won over heartlanders with lyrics depicting the little idiosyncrasies of Singaporean life.
But outshining them all – chalking up over 200,000 views – has been local songbird Lorraine Tan, who has used her musical talents to a support a good cause. Her self-composed song “Shine Singapore” was performed at a National Day fund-raising event, the proceeds of which went to The Straits Times School Pocket Money fund.
Right here on campus, “Come Home“ by SteadiProductions has swiftly garnered more than 65,000 unique views and close to 700 likes since its youtube release on 28 July.
The Nanyang Chronicle meets the team to get the lowdown on how the music video was produced.
