An unemployed man, 36, was caught by the president of Hall of Residence 2 this afternoon for allegedly trying to steal female underwear.
According to Lim Shao Wei, a third-year student from the Sports Science and Management programme, the suspect “looked suspicious and was lurking along the corridors of the second level at Block 1”.
Lim was at the bicycle shed overlooking the double rooms at Block 1 when he spotted the suspect at 1pm.
The suspect reached out and grabbed from the laundry line what Lim saw to be a bra.
Lim shouted at the suspect who then “squatted down to hide”.
Subsequently, Lim went up, caught the suspect, who was leaving the block, and shouted for help. Two of his friends who were nearby came and took hold of the suspect.
He called Campus Security, who arrived 15 minutes later. As the suspect was not an NTU student, the police were then called in.
The Nanyang Chronicle understands that the suspect has stolen underwear at Hall 2 before.
The case is still under police investigation.
