A Hall of Residence 16 occupant woke to a rude shock on the morning of 13 Aug when he discovered his iPhone 5 and S$50 stolen.

The victim, Xu Bin, 23, an exchange student from the Nanyang Business School, said he woke up at around 9.45am. He was alone as his roommate had already left for classes. After finding his valuables missing, he conducted a thorough search of the room.

He then reported the incident to the police.

Officers from Jurong Police Division conducted extensive interviews and enquiries. They subsequently arrested Ryan Chua, 22, a student from the School of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering.

Chua was charged in court on Thursday for theft in dwelling. If convicted, the accused could be jailed for up to seven years and fined.

Commander of Jurong Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Wilson Lim, commended his officers for their quick follow-up to investigate and arrest the suspect. DAC Lim reminds the public not to leave their belongings unattended and to secure their premises at all times.
